Niyama Private Islands
Niyama Private Islands is a luxury resort under the Minor Hotels group's luxury collection. It is positioned in the contemporary luxury category, combining the private relaxation unique to the Maldives with gastronomy, activities, and entertainment, offering a well-structured and reliable level of service throughout.
It is a multi-island resort consisting of two islands, Play Island and Chill Island, each offering different atmospheres and facilities, allowing guests to experience a variety of settings within a single stay. It is also one of the few resorts in the Maldives that has a surfing point.
Located at the southern end of Dhaalu Atoll, about 180 km southwest of Malé International Airport, Niyama Resort is primarily accessed via domestic flight transfer. Guests take a 30-minute domestic flight to Dhaalu Domestic Airport, followed by a 5-minute speedboat ride to the resort.
Through renovation, the original strong red-toned design has been replaced with a calm palette centered on white and wood, creating a more modern and sophisticated impression. As a luxury-category resort, even the entry-level villas offer spacious layouts of approximately 40 pyeong.
Depending on renovation completion status, villas are classified as Deluxe categories, and all villa renovations are scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2026.
1. Beach Villa / Deluxe Beach Villa
Approximately 40 pyeong in size, these villas offer excellent beach access with soft white sand and emerald lagoon views naturally surrounding the area. Surrounded by dense tropical vegetation, the villas ensure strong privacy between units.
2. Beach Pool Villa / Deluxe Beach Pool Villa
Designed at approximately 57 pyeong, these villas share the same structure and design as the Beach Villa category. A spacious private pool is located between the villa and the beach, allowing guests to enjoy swimming without disturbance from outside views.
3. Over Water Pool Villa
Designed at approximately 53 pyeong, these villas offer panoramic ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows in both the bedroom and bathroom. Located on the southern side of Chill Island, the villa deck connects directly to the sea via steps, making it ideal for swimming and ocean access.
4. Deluxe Over Water Pool Villa
The Deluxe Over Water Pool Villa features an infinity pool along with a pavilion-style dining space and an added jet spa option. The outdoor deck is enclosed on both sides and the back with fencing, ensuring privacy while maintaining an open, airy feel.
The dining plan at Niyama operates on a Half Board + Beverage package. For alcoholic beverages, selected drinks are served by the glass during dinner. The resort operates a total of 8 restaurants and bars.
1. Nest
An Asian restaurant located in the middle of a tropical rainforest. Built around a massive banyan tree with a spiral wooden deck wrapping around it, it offers a unique nature-integrated dining experience.
2. Blu
An international buffet restaurant located on Play Island. With an open-air structure and sand-floor concept, it provides a relaxed and natural atmosphere. The main pool is located directly in front of the restaurant, with surrounding lounge areas.
3. Epicure
A buffet restaurant located on Chill Island, facing an emerald lagoon and a long infinity pool. During busy times or rainy weather, a second-floor ocean-view lounge is used to distribute guests and maintain comfort.
4. Tribal
A restaurant specializing in African and Latin American cuisine. Located on the southwest beach of Chill Island, it features authentic décor and tableware inspired by African culture, creating an exotic atmosphere.
5. Subsix / Edge
Signature dining venues of the resort and among the few underwater restaurants in the Maldives, Subsix and Edge are located in the middle of a lagoon separate from the main island. Both offer fine dining cuisine.
6. Deli
A lounge café located on the private beach on the west side of Chill Island. Designed with an open structure allowing natural light to flow in, it offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. It is located near the fitness center and serves wellness drinks, desserts, and beverages.
7. Surf Shack
Located on the west coast of Play Island, this venue offers views of surfers in action. It serves light snacks and signature cocktails, making it a great place to enjoy the active scenery of the Maldives.
The resort features one of the few real surfing points in the Maldives, where guests can watch surfers riding the waves. Surf lessons for beginners are also available, offering a more dynamic side of the Maldives experience.
As a large-scale resort, there is a well-organized kids' club and structured children's programs. Additional facilities include a spa located where lush tropical gardens meet the lagoon shoreline, a fitness center, and a diving center offering structured training in a dedicated dive pool before open-water diving sessions.
